Laura Jenkins
Counseling Intern

I am a graduate student at the University of Nebraska - Omaha, and I am pursuing my master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. I also hold a bachelor’s degree in Family Life and Counseling from Nebraska Christian College.

My aim is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space where clients can be fully themselves and share their story. I seek to help clients gain a deeper understanding and acceptance of themselves, providing encouragement and empowerment as they face challenging life circumstances. I have experience working with individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss, women’s issues, trauma, and relationship issues.

My therapeutic work is primarily rooted in person centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and mindfulness approaches. I love helping clients build their emotional capacity during challenging points in their life. I enjoy incorporating elements of creativity into sessions and have helped clients explore their inner worlds through different artistic mediums.

I am passionate about our community and excited to offer support where I can through my internship at Radiant Counseling. I would love the opportunity to work with you!

What inspired you to become a therapist?

When I was a junior in high school, a loved one started therapy after their childhood trauma surfaced as an adult. I witnessed the way therapy changed their life and I knew I wanted to help people in the same way in the future.

What is your favorite self-care activity?

Evening walks around my neighborhood, picnics with my family, film photography, or a cup of tea - all things that keep me present.

A Favorite Quote or Mantra.

I am inspired and challenged by Mary Oliver’s poetry:

“I don’t ask the sights in front of me to change, only the depth of my seeing.” - Mary Oliver

“To pay attention, this is our endless and proper work.” - Mary Oliver (Yes! No!, 2003)

Fun Fact About Me.

I have 35 houseplants, my favorite being a philodendron brasil.
